Perfect for the ‘wow’ factor
It’s a thrill being up in the air on a good day with the thermals bubbling and flying with the elements.
At Welland Gliding Club, you can sometimes look over the wing and see a red kite flying in the same thermal as you.
You’ll get to fly above the local landmarks such as Lyveden New Bield and see down to Grafham Water and across to Rockingham Castle.
On a clear day, you will be able to see as far as The Wash. A clear, crisp winter’s day is often the best for visibility.
Take a flight with an instructor and simply enjoy the view and be flown around gently – or, if you’re more of a thrill-seeker, and feel comfortable taking the controls, you can. If you can drive a car, you can fly a glider.
There is no upper age limit – the oldest person to have flown with us was 92 years old.
There are some restrictions though: We have an upper weight limit of 220lbs (100kg or 15 Stone 10lbs) and a height limit of 6’ 2" (1.9m) - more details here
Prior to your gliding experience, you will be fully briefed and your fully qualified instructor will ensure your safe return to the ground.

In terms of what to bring, you just need to wear comfortable clothes including a coat as even on a hot day the wind is still noticeable on the airfield. All other equipment is provided.
Our club members will ensure your visit is an enjoyable experience and hopefully you will want to join as a member afterwards.

We have Flying Experience Vouchers available; They make a great gift for friends and family or why not treat yourself.
Welland Gliding Club is run entirely by volunteers. We have a number of membership options including temporary 3 month membership, 12 month memberships and ‘Fixed Price to Solo’ arrangement (12 months free tuition based on the BGA syllabus) – please ask one of our members for details or contact us via email or on 07944 822201 (Evenings and Weekends)
Visitors are always welcome to pop in and have a cup of tea and watch the activity on the airfield from a safe distance
